What this site is

dotcomjack.com is the personal site of Jack Brandt, a solo product builder in Detroit. It is a portfolio, a list of domain names I am open to selling, and a place to reach me. There are no user accounts and nothing to log in to.

By using this site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the site. These terms sit alongside the Privacy Policy, which covers the little data the site touches.

Using the site

You may read the site, follow its links, use the chat, and submit an offer on a domain. That is what it is for.

Do not attempt to break, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the site or the services behind it. Do not scrape it in a way that degrades it for other people, and do not use it to send abusive, unlawful, or fraudulent content through the forms or the chat.

The chat on this site

Some pages offer a chat box that answers questions about my work. It is a convenience, not advice. It can be wrong, and you should not rely on it for any decision that matters.

What you type is sent to a third-party AI model provider to generate a reply, as described in the Privacy Policy. Treat it like any public form: do not type anything confidential.

Offers on domain names

This section covers the offer form on the domains page only. It does not cover the auction, which has its own terms in the next section and works the opposite way.

The domains page lists names I am open to selling, and it has a form for making an offer. Submitting an offer there starts a conversation. It is not a purchase, it does not reserve the name, and it does not bind either of us.

A sale through that form happens only through a separate written agreement that we both sign. Until then, a listing on the domains page is an invitation to make an offer, not a fixed price and not a promise to sell.

The auction

The auction at /auction works differently from the domains offer form above, and where the two disagree this section governs the auction.

A bid is a binding offer to buy the lot at the amount bid. Bids cannot be retracted, amended, or cancelled once placed. If you hold the high bid when the lot closes and the reserve has been met, you are committed to completing the purchase.

You need a paddle to bid. Requesting one means you accept these terms. I approve paddles at my discretion and I can decline or revoke one without giving a reason, including after a bid has been placed, in which case that bid is void and the lot reverts to the bid below it.

Every lot has a reserve and it is sealed before bidding opens. The commitment hash is published on the lot page from day one and the amount and its nonce are published when the lot closes, so anyone can recompute the hash and confirm the number was never moved. If the reserve is not met the lot does not sell.

A bid placed near the close extends the close. The lot ends when bidding actually stops, not at a fixed minute, so the published close time is the earliest the lot can end and not the latest.

Settlement is through a third-party escrow service. Nothing transfers until the escrow confirms funds. If a winning bidder does not complete within the period stated at the close, the sale is void, the paddle is revoked for all future lots, and I may offer the lot to the next highest bidder at their own last bid.

I may withdraw a lot at any time before it closes. If I do, every bid on it is void and nobody owes anybody anything.

The lot page describes what is included. Those descriptions are accurate to the best of my knowledge at the time of writing and are the only representations I make. The asset is otherwise sold as is, with no warranty of any kind, including no warranty of revenue, traffic, or continued availability of any third-party service it depends on.

The seller is Jack Brandt, Detroit, Michigan. These terms are governed by Michigan law, as set out below.

The tools

The tools page links small open source tools I built for my own work and released under the MIT license. Your use of each tool is governed by the license shipped with it.

The tools are provided as is, with no warranty, which is what the MIT license already says. Read the license before you depend on one.

Content and intellectual property

The writing, design, and code of this site are mine unless stated otherwise. You may quote and link to it with attribution. You may not copy it wholesale and pass it off as your own.

The names, logos, and marks of the ventures shown here belong to their respective owners. Listing a venture on this site does not grant you any right to its brand.

No warranty

The site is provided as is and as available, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. I do not promise that it will be error free, uninterrupted, or fit for any particular purpose.

Links point to third-party sites I do not control, including my other ventures and their app store listings. I am not responsible for their content or availability.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of this site. This is a personal portfolio site, not a paid service, and nothing here is sold to you through it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.

Changes

I may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page is always the date they last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
