What this site is

dotcomjack.com is the personal site of Jack Brandt, a solo product builder in Detroit. It is a portfolio, a list of domain names I am open to selling, and a place to reach me. There are no user accounts and nothing to log in to.

Because there are no accounts, there is no profile of you here to export, correct, or delete. The sections below cover the data the site does touch, which is not much.

Analytics, and the choice you get first

This site uses a third-party product analytics service to count page views and basic interactions, so I can see which pages are worth keeping. It records the page you are on, the referring link, coarse device and browser information, and your IP address, from which it derives an approximate city and country. It does not store a precise location.

Analytics does not run until you accept it. On your first visit you get a cookie banner. If you decline, or simply never answer, the analytics library is initialized opted out with persistence disabled, which means it captures nothing and writes no analytics cookie. It is off by default, not on by default.

You can change your answer at any time. There is a Cookie preferences control at the bottom of this page, and the same control sits in the footer of the homepage.

I do not sell your data, I do not share it with advertisers, and there is no advertising or cross-site tracking pixel anywhere on this site.

Cookies and local storage

If you answer the cookie banner, your answer is stored under the key dcj_cookie_consent in both browser local storage and a cookie that lasts one year. On the live site that cookie is scoped to .dotcomjack.com so the apex and www share one answer. It holds a single value recording whether you granted or denied consent, and nothing else. It is what stops the banner reappearing on every page.

If you grant consent, the analytics service sets its own first-party cookies to tell one visit from another. If you deny, it sets none.

Clearing your browser storage for this site removes all of it, and you will simply be asked again.

The chat on this site

Some pages offer a chat box that answers questions about my work. What you type is sent to a third-party AI model provider to generate a reply, and the reply comes back to your browser.

Those messages are not stored in a database on this site and are not tied to an identity, because there are no accounts. The model provider processes the text to produce the response under its own terms.

Treat it like any AI chat box: it is a public form on a public website, so do not type anything confidential, and do not type anything you would not want leaving your machine.

If you email me

If you write to me, I keep the message in my mailbox so I can reply and refer back to it, the same way anyone keeps their email. I do not add you to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list.

There is no newsletter signup and no drip sequence on this site. The one form is the domain offer form described below.

Offers on domain names

The domains page lists names I am open to selling, and it has a form for making an offer. That form collects your name, your email address, and whatever you write in the message, because an offer I cannot reply to is not an offer.

What you submit is relayed to me through a third-party messaging service so it reaches my phone. It is not added to a mailing list and it is not used for marketing.

To stop the same person submitting repeatedly on one domain, the service stores a one-way hash of your IP address combined with the domain name for 90 days. It is a fingerprint used only to recognize a duplicate, it is not reversible back to your IP, and it is not linked to your name or email.

Hosting and server logs

The site is served from a third-party edge hosting provider. Like every web host, it processes standard request information such as your IP address, user agent, and the URL requested, in order to deliver the page and to defend against abuse and denial-of-service traffic. That is a normal part of serving a website and happens whether or not you accept analytics.

Every page also loads its typefaces from a third-party font service. Your browser requests those font files directly, which means that service receives your IP address and user agent as part of the request. This happens on page load, before and regardless of any cookie choice, because it is how the page renders its text.

How long things are kept

Your consent answer: one year, or until you clear your browser storage. Analytics data, if you accepted it: retained by the analytics service on a rolling basis and not used after it stops being useful for understanding traffic. The duplicate-detection hash on a domain offer: 90 days. Email you send me: kept in my mailbox like any other correspondence. Server logs: short-lived, held by the hosting provider for operations and abuse prevention.

Children

This site is not directed at children and I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information a site holds about you, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and to object to certain processing. Some jurisdictions also give you the right not to have personal information sold or shared. I do not sell or share personal information.

In practice there is very little here to act on: no accounts, no profiles, and analytics that only runs if you say yes and can be switched off from the footer. If you want to make a request anyway, email me and I will handle it directly.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the consent value is versioned, so a material change re-prompts you rather than quietly grandfathering an old answer. The date at the top of this page is always the date it last changed.
